New Arrivals

New Arrivals 21st July

Plenty of new things:

From the Loire, via the Gard. Simon Rouillard, who has a storied CV and has taken his own two hectares in Anjou. Whilst setting this up he has been making negociant wine with fruit bought from his friend Frederic Agneray in the Gard. We have one of these wines - Musette 2019, a crunchy light summer red from Syrah & Grenache which really shows the talent of this young vigneron.

Also from Anjou we have a new wine from the elusive Mai & Kenji Hodgson. For my money some of the best wines in France, on their day. Often their wines need a lot of time to properly reveal themselves, but in the case of Flotsam 2019, this a wine that is ready to go. Made in a different style from previous vintages of their Cabernet, where, inspired by the vigneron Daniel Sage, they infuse whole bunches of fruit in the  juice. It makes a crunchy, lighter style with a lovely line of acidity, drink chilled and feel the energy!

Finally - Under the radar still in Anjou - Cedric Garreau who makes bright, accurate and fruit-forward wines on just over 3 hectares of beautifully farmed vines in this storied region. We just recieved three wines; Sonamnbulles Rose 2020 - A lovely Pet Nat made from a direct press of Grolleau, incredibly refreshing and perfectly suited to the heat of the past week. Lunatic 2019, his powerful, shimmering Chenin, explosive with fruit, drinking well already, though experience tells, his wines gain grace with age. Then there is Solera NV, this is a rare thing. A sweet wine producer without additions. This comes from botrytis fruit from the 2016/2017/2018 vintages which Cedric topped up every year and has incredible depth and verve. We got just 12 bottles - one to put aside for a special occasion.

14th July

From another part of the Loire we have new wine from Laurent Saillard; as well as a re-stock of all of Laurent's 2020 wines we recieved earlier in the year we have a new wine. La Pause 2020.

Produced from Gamay from the Clos Roche Blanche vineyard that Laurent farms, the vines are over 50 years old. 2020 is a really wonderful vintage, as it wasn't too hot and the wine is drinking really well already, with lovely dense, silky tannins and plenty of fruit.
