Four current favourites from Caroline Ledédenté of Grain Par Grain. Making utterly delicious and beguiling wines in the South of Bugey.

Jaja - 100% Jacquère du Bugey, from a parcel in Leyzieu, near Belley, Aux Cries faces le Grand Colombier, the mountain sat at the southern extremity of the Jura. A mixture of fruit trees sit among the vines. Grapes were trampled and then pressed with a vertical ratchet press, 9 months in a 1500l fibreglass tank.

Texture like glass, very intense fruit despite the light abv. Delicious!

Table - 100% Molette du Bugey, from the commune of Corbonod, a beautiful parcel of 0.9 hectares facing the Rhône and with houses on the other side with fruit trees and gardens.

Molette is a rare variety often used in blends with Altesse, but looked after it can produce some wonderful wines. The grapes were trampled and then pressed with a vertical ratchet press, 9 months of aging in barrel.

Le Vin De La Tribu - 100% Aligoté du Bugey, commune of Leyzieu, Tomacette plot, faces le Grand Colombier, the mountain sat at the southern extremity of the Jura. A mixture of fruit trees sit among the vines. Trampled and then pressed with a vertical ratchet press, 9 months of aging in vats.

Has the wonderful backbone of acidity you expect from the variety, but breezy and fresh, alive with citrus and sherbet. 

Comme CA - 100% Gamay du Bugey, commune of Leyzieu, TOMACETTE plot, facing le Grand Colombier, the mountain sat at the southern extremity of the Jura. A mixture of fruit trees sit among the vines, which were planted in 1985/1990 on clay and limestone. 

 

6 weeks of maceration and then pressed with a vertical ratchet press then 9 months elevage in tank. wonderfully dense and silky wine filled with an exotic fruit and spice that is unique to this mountainous region.
