Five wines perfect for the season
Two from Cedric Garreau in Anjou
Lunatic 2018 - Chenin on schiste, 50% macerated destemmed for 10 days, the rest direct press.
Metisse 2018 - Cabernet Franc & Cabernet Sauvignon, dense with dark fruit and silky tannins.
Two from Joseph Jefferies in the Languedoc
La Pierre De Sisyphe 2018 - Terret macerated for 3 days, blended with Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Gris which was pressed direct.A balance of the usual savoury, herbal salinity with some exotic fruit aromatics and a little more texture than in other years.
Brutal 2018 - a two-week maceration of whole-bunch Grenache, picked relatively early. After pressing off, the Carignan and Cinsault were harvested directly into the Grenache juice for a 5-day whole-bunch infusion. The result is a red with delicate structure, fresh fruit, and basalt tang.
And one pale pink bubbles from Ariane Lesne in the Vendome, Northern Loire
Hop Hop Hop Aunis 2018 - Direct press of Pineau d'Aunis giving a very pale pink colour. Bottled with a little sugar to give bubbles in the bottle, left on the lees (yeast) that develops in bottle for over a year than disgorged to clear the lees. A spiced finish that feels quite festive.
