A fun pack of six wines that offer great examples of their vintage. Limited stocks
Sisyphe 13 - Carignan, Grenache Noir
Very much in the Languedocian tradition of structured reds, with riper Grenache Noir and Carignan Noir and a month-long maceration of destemmed grapes making for a wine that is spicy and long, the ripe tannins softened by the long bottle ageing and the freshness of the basalt lifting the whole.
Sisyphe 2014 - 100% Carignan
100% whole bunch Carignan, a smoky, svelte and fresh explosion of spiced-fruit and leather. Needs some airing before drinking.
François Saint-lô - Bois Guyon 2015
Cabernet Franc from 80 year old vines. De-stemmed, 10 days maceration in tank, pressed then most goes to 400 litres barrels. Aged for two and a half years, bottled, wait a year and a half more before it sees the sunlight. Poor soil, nearly 100% limestone,
Domaine De Montrieux - Grandgousier 2016
From her oldest Pineau d’Aunis vines, some of which are up to 120 years old, we got a tiny amount of the wine as 2016 was a tough vintage for Ariane, she lost a lot of fruit to frost. It’s a quite haunting expression of the variety, deep with peppery fruit.
Julien Pineau - Substance 2017
Exceptional Sauvignon from Julien. In 2017 all of his Sauvignon, the young and old vines from the Roche Blanche vineyard, went into this single wine. He pressed direct, then put into barrel on the lees for a two years elevage then bottled in 2019. It has beautiful texture and power and shows what is possible for a grape that is often abused.
Garo'vin - Lunatic 2018
For this vintage Cedric had a generous harvest and decided to experiment with macerating half the grapes destemmed for a week. He aged the wines separately and decided to blend them at bottling. It’s given a more fruit forward style of Chenin, but with still with that hallmark acidity and is drinking well in it’s youth.
